INCLUSION

INCLUSION//
“When I think of this statement I think of two scenarios.
My children and myself as a little girl.

My mom voice coming out and telling my children to “include everyone!” But what rings in my heart more is myself as a little girl. I wanted to be like everyone else. I wanted to be included, I wanted friends, I wanted to be invited. What I DIDN’T want (and still don’t to this day) is to be treated different. I didn’t want some to have to go “out of their way” to have me be a part. I didn’t want to feel like a burden even if they meant well. I didn’t want to be invited to the birthday party but have to sit at a special table where I felt all eyes and smiles were on me. I didn’t want special treatment because of my wheelchair. In fact I wanted to fade in to all the other kids around me. One of the best compliments I would get is “I don’t even notice the chair” I wanted the whole world to see that everyone is different, everyone has different needs, EVERYONE deserves to feel like a special human.” - Megan DeJarnett @megandejarnett
